Afrika’s Death;OAU students seek justice after 14 years

afrika

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students seek justice 14 years after the brutal killings of George Akin Iwilade(AFRIKA) and 4 other students.
Afrika before his death was the Secretary General of Obafemi Awolowo University students’ union and was
loved by all due to his struggle against anti-students policies by the university management.
The 5 students were gruesomely murdered in a cult-sponsored attack. The only direction accusing fingers were pointing at was at the then vice-chancelor of the university, Wale Omole who was believed to have sponsored the attack on the students’ union leaders. Maybe we need to spare him element of doubt but then why is it taking so long to make the culprits bear the brunt of their wickedness?.
Lanre Adeleke(Legacy), the then president of OAU students’ union in his eye witness account was more than sure that the dastard act was masterminded and sponsored by Omole. He (Omole) saw the students’ leaders as enemies and at such there was the need to get rid of them. The Union at the time was fighting for the reinstatement of Anthony Fashayo a.k.a Tony Fash who was suspended since 1995 and other anti-students policies by the management.
It is very unpleasant to note that 14 years after this incidence, students across the country are still victims of attack from different quaters. If it is the headline “4 students killed by policemen” today, it has to be “20 students killed as a result of boko haram attack” tomorow.

At this point, Nigerian students as a matter of urgency need to unite and not only fight against the decadence in the knowledge industry but also decry the attack on Nigerian students. OAU Students will continue to remember Afrika and 4 others as your death has brought peace to OAU campus. RIP.
