Nigeria House of Representatives- El-Classico in the making.1

They say to cater for ones citizens forms the bedrock of democratic government, but alas, reverse is the case for Nigerian helmsmen, who at the zenith of power manipulate it to their advantage.

 Nigerian House of Representatives has been known to be the center of Nigeria power romance, trying to galvanize the purse of the country to their sides. Their dribbling attitude towards Citizenry has caused a lot of havoc to the fulfillment of "next to nothing "promises of the Government.

1. The first is the delay in passing the 2013 budget of the Republic of Nigeria owing to the fact of the President of Nigeria, Jonathan failing to assent the budget because he is not allowing the increment in their allowances.

 Members of the House of Representatives launched an agitation for a N7m increase in their quarterly allowances, barely 24 hours after resuming from a two-month recess.

Each member of the House currently enjoys N27m per quarter as allowances but the lawmakers want the sum jerked up to N35m. They reportedly questioned how the   “N5m” budgeted for each member’s medical expenses and insurance was utilized by the House.

2. The second point is the recent rejection of bill to give Unemployed Graduates Allowances. The bill was sponsored by Arua Arunsi (PDP, Abia), sought to amend the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Act 2004 to cater for unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions who could not secured employment.

Mr Arunsi had argued that the bill was to design and implement programmes to combat mass unemployment for graduates that are between the ages of 18 to 35 years and also between third to fifth year of post-graduation experience.

Most of the lawmakers present at the chamber stoutly opposed the second reading of the bill on the ground that it failed to meet critical criterion of filling gaps inherent in the existing laws it was seeking to amend.

Conclusively, don't let us be fooled around, these band-wagon players in the government are playing on our intelligence. Bore-holes, Health centers amongst other ill-fated incentives do not mark up to better expectations of Nigeria generation to come- Teeming Youths. Payments of Unemployment benefits/allowances form the main resources to cater for the generation of this nation, will also make us at par with developed countries, thereby developing the country’s National Income cum Per Capital Income which will boil down to improving the standard of living of the populace… so wouldn’t we rather find a partial officiating refree for the El.classico players
