24th NUGA GAMES '14: Host, OAU wins first Gold Medal

Since the Varsity games started and have featured so many events, the Obafemi Awolowo University on Tuesday, 18th February earned the first gold medal at the Table Tennis Competition, Temitayo Ramon and Jadesola Omowonuola did the host school proud.

The game started with a semi-final match held at IGI with; Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nnamdi Azikwe University, Adekunle Ajasin University and Federal University of Technology, Akure as competitors.

Ramon Temitayo and Omowonuola Jadesola represented OAU while Afolabi Adesola and Olorunmaye Bolanle represented AAUA.

In the first singles; Temitayo Ramon VS Afolabi Adesola, OAU floored AAUA with Temitayo winning 3 out of 4 sets with 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 15-13 as the game results.

With the second singles played between Omowonuola Jadesola and Olorunmaye Bolanle, OAU won the game once again with Omowonuola winning all 3 sets with 11-3, 11-5, and 11-2 as game results.

At this point, OAU students spectating roared with a loud cheer as a sign of them being proud of the female table tennis team.

The final female table tennis game between OAU and AAUA was a double featuring the above two mentioned sport women representing OAU and ditto for the ladies representing AAUA. Temitayo and Jadesola teamed up and really did OAU proud by winning the game of 4 sets with OAU (10-12, 11-8, 13-11, 11-6).

In total, OAU won AAUA 3-0 on the female table tennis game. AAUA left the game with a silver medal while OAU with a gold medal.
