Former Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, who still has a corruption case hanging on his neck is the chosen candidate for the office of the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party by the governors who challenged and rejected President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife's candidate.
A governor who was at the meeting said, “Yes, we have picked Mu’azu. He will be presented to the members of the PDP NEC on Monday(today) for ratification.”
He said President Jonathan wanted Mohammed Wakil at all costs but was vehemently opposed by most of the governors. He said the meeting lasted long because Jonathan didn't want to accept defeat.
Mu’azu was eventually accepted as a consensus candidate at a meeting between President Jonathan and thegovernors of the party at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday night.
The meeting ended at 1:22 am on Monday (today) morning.
Mu’azu was born on June 11, 1955, and was governor of Bauchi from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2007.
Before the two meetings, President Jonathan had a private meeting with Seriake Dickson on his home state of Bayelsa, ostensibly to make him influence other governors on who would emerge but all efforts failed.
