Three persons, including a pregnant woman, have been crushed to death after a truck rammed into them in the Osholo village area of Etsako East in Edo State.
The driver of the truck and another occupant were said to have been killed by an angry mob which set them ablaze as a result of the accident. It all happened when the driver, who was en route to Weppa from Ekperi, ran into guests at a burial ceremony, leaving three persons dead and injuring others.
The driver, who reportedly hailed from Weppa community, and the other occupant alighted the vehicle in an attempt to take the victims to a nearby hospital.
But they were attacked by youths and forced back into the vehicle before setting the truck ablaze.
It was learnt that the situation angered some residents of Weppa community, who allegedly invaded Osholo and also set some houses on fire. The incident took place last Thursday.
Sources say some policemen later arrived to prevent further loss of lives and property.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, while confirming the incident on Wednesday, said investigation had commenced.
